Defective charging port
« on: June 08, 2015, 09:00:44 AM »
Well, it has finally happened. The charger port on the TC1020 has stopped working correctly. The USB charging cable always had problems being plugged in. You had to put it in at a weird angle. I know that was a general manufacturing problem because it was the same on all the TC1020s that I tested before keeping this one. I have a 3 year drops and spills warranty through Square Trade. I went to submit a claim at the Square Trade website and they said that I needed to make the claim with Le Pan since it's still under their one year warranty. I started a ticket with Le Pan. I am so bummed because I have a feeling dealing with Square Trade would have been faster and easier. Has anyone had problems with their TC1020 charging port? In general, has anyone had to deal with a warranty issue with Le Pan? Fingers crossed this turns out OK. I don't want to end up with a refurbished one that looks bad. The one we have now is pristine - it still has the factory screen protector on it!

Pushing 18 months without any problems.  Use it on a daily basis for about 2.5  to 3 hours a day.  Always had to be careful with the sensitive data port but never an issue.  Good luck with Le Pan and let us know how it goes.

P S I still have the original factory shipping screen protector on also.  Works great.   ;)

I have always got new replacements from them. But the port isn't a design or manufacturing flaw. It is designed that way to alleviate the side to side strain on the port that comes from normal use. The strain from the side is the primary cause of the solder joints breaking on the usb/hdmi ports.

Thank you both for the input. I am glad to hear from someone who has received replacements from them. That charging port angle was certainly harder to deal with than, for instance, my phone...  I am still waiting for a response to the ticket I initiated early this morning. I didn't even get a robo response email saying that they got the ticket. Fingers crossed...

Well, things are chugging along... I got an answer back from Le Pan and was supposed to respond with an uploaded proof of purchase. Of course, I didn't have a clue how to do it so they sent me an email option which I did instead. I will keep y'all updated so anyone who is wondering how this works will learn from my experience...

I've sent back two tablets to LePan (not the TC1020) and always received a brand new tablet in about 2 weeks. No problem.  You should be fine!

Thanks for the reassurance folks! I just shipped it out yesterday via UPS at a cost of over $20. That cost was a bummer... now I am thinking that I have to call Square Trade when I get the new tablet. I have a 3 year Drops and Spills contract with them under the old serial number. Anyone have to do that? I called them once to cancel a contract and there was a real language comprehension issue that complicated things a bit...

Ah Good point though.  If you get an exchange via factoey warranty most would forget to update the extended warranty.  Will they transfer it to the new tablet?  I often have language comprehension  issues myself.

I am wondering if they will allow you to transfer it to the new tablet or make you purchase a whole new contract because its a different tablet?  Keep us posted.  As for the language comprehension issue, I feel your pain.  I have come to expect this as part of the "customer service experience".

Things are still moving along nicely...  the package was delivered to LePan on Thursday and they emailed me on Friday to let me know they received it and to give it up to two more weeks to receive the replacement.  I have not called Square Trade, yet.  I am going to wait until I have the new Serial Number to give them...  y'all might remember that it took me testing 4 other tablets before I kept this one...  hopefully, this one will be satisfactory from the get-go!  I was also thinking that I am so glad for this Forum because I can go back and read all the posts concerning starting from Square 1 with a new TC1020 and I won't have to bother you with all my crazy!!!  LOLOLOL!!!

Well, the new tablet was delivered Friday. Timing was very good on the part of LePan. I was on vacation and only got to it today. I went back to my previous posts with questions and have the tablet updated and chugging along... I have to say that trying to do a System Update is the most frustrating thing! It took MANY tries and about 5 hours for it to finally connect, stay connected long enough to download 100% and update! I called Square Trade (this time with no language comprehension issues - lol) and they took the new Serial Number and replaced the old one. As far as the quality of the new tablet - I am more than satisfied - although I am still not happy with the way they angled the charging port... I see this procedure again in my future... With a 9-year-old boy being the primary plugger-inner and plugger-outer I think it is just a matter of time... But I still LOVE this tablet!!!  :) :) :)
