Root The Le Pan Mini
« on: February 15, 2014, 02:42:15 PM »
So a couple of root methods have been discussed for the Le Pan Mini TC802A previously. They required a little bit of work. Vroot is no longer necessary. XDA user alephzain has Framaroot working with Mediatek and it is a very simple process.

First we need to get the tablet ready

Go into settings and the "About tablet" menu. Tap the "Build number" until you see Developer options have been enabled.

Now go into the "Developer options"

1. Turn  Developer's options on at the top of the menu.
2. Enable "USB debugging".
3. Enable "Allow mock locations".

Now that the hard part is over download the most current version of  FRAMAROOT 1.91 AT THE BOTTOM OF THE FIRST POST HERE and install it.

Once you have framaroot installed open the app dock and run it. On the initial start screen the option for "Install Supersu" (root) will already be selected. At the bottom there are three exploit options. tap "Faramir".

The screen will blank and after about a minute you should see a notification:
Quote
Success … Superuser and su binary installed

Congrats' you are done. But if you see:
Quote
Failed … Try another exploit if available”
Re-open the app and choose another exploit.

Thanks Rabid, this worked great.  :D  Now what to do with a rooted mini - hum

Ran into two things during the process.  The first time I got to the Framaroot site, I hit the "download" option that was there and I got a message that the version was only available for Windows versions.  Got out of the site and came back in and noticed if I scrolled down to the bottom of the posting all the different versions were listed.  After selecting the 9.1.1 version, the process ran just as smooth as could be asked.

Thanks again and if there was only a process that easy for the LP ll I'd jump on it in order to get some of my apps moved to SD2 and free up some space.

Did not work for me.  I followed insturctions to the T.  It doesnt blink as other tututorials suggest it might, or should during the process.  It just instantly says success.  Reboot to install SuperSU.  After I reboot, it doesnt install anything else and is not rooted.  I did a factory wipe in case some other app was blocking it. I did notice while trying to use another root via pc method, Kingo root,  that although I check the turn on the usb debugging mode, Kingo root does not recognize it as being in the debugging mode. I have tried this over and over and always with the same result.  I got this mini from QVC in September of 2014 but cant find anyone else having this issue.  Table works great but cannot root it.   Please help!!!

That usually means you do not have the drivers for the tablet properly installed on your PC.

Reboot to install SuperSU.

Framaroot doesn't say this, what version do you have?

Framaroot has NOTHING to do with a PC at all.  It's an apk...  Also,  you don't need any of those developer options enabled either.  Especially allow mock locations.  It has absolutely nothing to do with root.  In any way....  It's best to use USB debugging for things such as terminal emulator etc.  Go r using the android shell and adb...  If you don't know what either of those are don't try fooling with them,  you'll brick your device. And for the guy that said nothing installed.  If it said success,  it DID install.  All you needed do was reboot,  and go to your app drawer and open SUPERSU. it's the yellow superman symbol.  Nothing flashes in framaroot,  so not sure what the op is talking about their either...  You just download framaroot, install, open,  borimir,  success.  Reboot.  If you are using the tc802a. Its not possible that it failed.  No way no how.  You just were confused.  Now my question is has anyone got a custom recovery to stick?  I can't and I've even built my own twrp.  They just simply won't work.
